First incorporated in 1957, the Ontario Concrete Pipe Association (OCPA) is a nonprofit industry association. The OCPA promotes the high standards of business practice and the product quality of its members, and provides technical information to specifiers, regulators, contractors and educators. Producers of concrete pipe, maintenance holes, box culverts and box sewers, and precast concrete specialty products joined to form the Association. Companies that provide products and services to its producer members are also welcome members of the OCPA.

Guiding Principals

  • To be responsive to the needs of specifiers, customers, employers, communities and the environment.
  • To act as the voice of its members in dialogue with municipal, provincial and federal governments regarding proposed or existing legislation that affects the business of the industry.
  • To ensure that its producer members manufacture products of the highest standards in a safe workplace.
  • To assist government in the development of standards and specifications for precast concrete products manufactured by its members.
  • To develop new opportunities for precast products and their specifications.
  • To advance appropriate technology in the concrete products industry.

Association Activities

  • Technical seminars for specifiers, regulators, universities and colleges to advance the understanding of precast concrete drainage systems.
  • Distribution of technical information from the concrete pipe industry to consulting and municipal engineers.
  • Liaison with elected and nonelected government officials to stay informed of market requirements, and to advise on research and product development.
  • Partnering with industry and government to undertake research and software development.
  • Public relations programs to promote the products and services of the concrete pipe industry.

Technical Services

Consulting and municipal engineers can take advantage of the complete technical resources of the concrete pipe industry available through the OCPA. At any time, the Association can call upon the comprehensive technical services of its members’ engineering departments. Those services include the development of special pipe designs, the preparation of concrete pipe standards and specifications, and the solutions of unusual design problems. In addition, engineers are encouraged to participate in seminars, the preparation of publications, and special studies sponsored by the Association.

Management

The OCPA is managed by full-time staff who are responsible for administration of the Association’s activities and accounts, marketing, and technical services to industry. All staff have a broad understanding of the industries involved in infrastructure development and participate in professional associations. The staff is charged with administering Association activities under the guiding principles.

Research & Development

Made to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century, precast concrete drainage products continue to undergo technological advancements to enhance performance and reliability. Research and development have produced greatly improved materials, precision manufacturing processes and product quality control.
